 Maybe start planning for a new addition next year, and start saving some money for a dog walker at least while the dog is young, or first getting used to your home. You also need to have sufficient funds for vet visits, vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm preventives, food, license, spay/neuter if you get a puppy, etc. Having a dog is NOT inexpensive, and you shouldn’t commit to one if you won’t keep the commitment. Too many dogs are sent to shelters and rescues by people who had no idea how to raise, socialize and train a dog, and they think the dog is poorly behaved, when it was simply left to raise itself. ETA: Portuguese Water Dogs are VERY intelligent, active working dogs. They MUST be trained, and they need exercise, play and tasks, or they can get bored and destructive. Also, they need grooming - add that to your financial responsibilities list, too!

 Don’t get a puppy at this time. Your family doesn’t have the time or resources. You might consider rescuing an adult dog who is already house-trained, and physically able to wait 7 hours between the last walk of the morning and the first person who gets home to allow him to relieve himself later that day. I always advise people to only get a new dog when they have at least a week or 10 days that they can be home, or if 2 or 3 people, each takes 2 or 3 days off - specifically to take the dog out every 15–20 minutes at first, to praise the dog when it pees and poops outside, and not give it any chance to have accidents in the house, which are NEVER a dog’s fault!!

The jagged edges of the wounds had healed, but for a long time, Ginger had a terror of scissors. When I approached him with scissors in my hand to cut mats from his fur, he whimpered in terror. When I tossed a ball for Ginger to play, he was terrified, thinking he was getting stoned again. When he saw me holding a stick-like object, he cowered in the expectation of getting beaten. And yet, despite his horrible experience with humans, Ginger was willing to give his love and trust to a human. He chose me and opened up to me completely. (It took a year before he overcame his fear of scissors, though.)

 I had actually thought about getting a dog and didn’t know how to find the right one. Never having had a dog, I felt daunted. I was even a bit frightened of dogs. How would I find a dog that was suitable for a beginner, fit in with my lifestyle, and importantly, would be gentle with my cats? It turned out that Ginger was exactly the right dog for me - and I was apparently the right human for him. I couldn’t have found a more perfect match. Not only was he easy to care for (requiring no special skill and very little work), he sensed which actions frightened me and didn’t do them again. He was wonderfully gentle and patient. Best of all, he loved my cats and set about winning their friendship.

The barking of dogs is their natural instinct and there is rule for dog bite and it is a serious offense anyways chances of pet dog biting is negligible and for defecation, NO SOCIETY ALLOWS PET TO DEFECATE INSIDE THE PREMISES.. GET UR FACTS RIGHT… What do you mean by humans being restricted? Do you want to defecate in an open space in society? Imagine u have a small child she is playing and I suddenly rush towards her wouldn't your child be frightened the same way that do u expect when a child suddenly rushes towards a pet dog and not all children are scared of the dog barking.

I knew my boy was getting older and the day would come when he would leave us, and all too soon for anybody’s liking.

 Well, I knew my boy was getting older and the day would come when he would leave us, and all too soon for anybody’s liking. It made me feel sad that he wouldn’t be around to enjoy the hugs, belly scratches, food snuck at dinner time, “our time” walks, etc., and likewise I would miss his peaking into my room to check I’m where I should be, keeping the birds in line, and reminding me to exercise by going for our twice-daily walks. And, it is the sadness I feel more than anything now that he passed suddenly in the early morning of Thursday, June 24. No regrets, no other feelings, just sadness that we didn’t have a bit more time. It leaves a void of silence and smells no longer to be part of your routine. Miss, you're my buddy; you left us too soon.

It is the cats’ and dogs’ territory and the wild ones know that they are interlopers. As to the size difference, more experienced wild animals may not be afraid of cats or dogs, but most don’t want to take on any animal ready to defend its turf. It’s usually not worth the risk of even a small injury when you have no medical care. As to size, most humans will leap out of the way when a rat or other vermin runs at them. Some of us will even run from a big cockroach and they don’t bite!
