It's a common misconception that cats smell foul

 It's a common misconception that cats smell foul. Usually, the people that believe cats stink, know nothing at all about caring for cats. Why are there some people who believe that all cats smell bad? Because those people - at one time or another - probably owned and did not properly care for their cat, or knew someone else that owned a cat and they did not properly care for their cat either. When people don't clean their cats' litter boxes, the waste piles up and stinks. Besides a dirty litter box, I can think of only 2 other reasons why a cat might stink: One reason is that the cat might be very old and or sick to properly groom him/herself. The other reason might be because someone has failed to have their male cat neutered by the time he's 6 months of age, so the male cat is marking his territory by spraying urine. Think of how bad a human would stink if they were too old, sick or disabled to bathe. Think of how bad a toilet would stink if it was never flushed. I have had cats for more than 25 years, and I have never had one cat that has had a foul smell. And finally, if your cat is inappropriately urinating outside of his/her litter box, a vet visit is important to find out why he/she's doing that.
