I have four dogs. Two are mini dachshunds, one old and one young, a senior Jack Russell, and a young Jackapoo. They love walks. Just hearing a dog tag jingle is met with a stampede to the door, and lots of jumping around and barking. They are all friendly, if a bit barky. But they are all approachable. And my neighborhood have people who walk their dogs at the same time every single day. It's a good neighborly neighborhood.

Your dog may be ok.

 Your dog may be ok. But your mum definitely won't, she will live with the questions and guilt of not being able to help (why didn't you talk to her) for the rest of her life and she will never be quite the same again. Please talk to someone about how you feel. Your mum would be a good place to start. But anyone with compassion who will listen is better than keeping silent. If you end your life things can't get better. You won't always feel this way. Life is precious. Go to a hospice for the terminally ill and then tell yourself that life isn't the most precious thing we have. Please seek help, your life matters..you matter. Don't do this to yourself or to your mum.

 They have learned it is a way to get your attention. Every night, my husband would be at the computer desk, and the dog would think it was time for his beloved daily “dental stick”. The dog would sit there quietly for some time, looking at my husband, then moving his eyes to the shelf above the computer, where the dental sticks were kept. If my husband would ignore this hint, our dog would paw ON my husband’s knee. And if my husband then ignored this signal, our dog would start tapping his paw on my husband’s knee until he turned away from the screen and got that dental stick down. Dogs learn what works.

Please call Animal Control and the Humane Society to report this right away. Follow-up if necessary until they respond. At least those dogs could be removed and adopted out to loving homes. Those dogs are screaming because they’re being locked in a closet all night. Your parents are sick and they need help. Hoarding is a mental disorder, and those poor creatures are the victims. You are their savior.

 I hate to break it to ya, but there are bad people hanging around pretty much everywhere. But at the dog park I always keep my eyes open for men at the dog park with no dog. That’s your first red flag. Bad guys are at the dog park in particular because there’s a lot of activity going on to distract potential victims and their dogs. Also, bad guys understand that people who have dogs are kind, compassionate and giving. Bad guys take advantage of that. Surely, dogs at the dog park would defend their owners, and the social atmosphere keeps people watching out for each other. Dog owners rule.

 I am fairly confident your country’s veterinarians can manage the above. They may be aware of resources to assist you. You stand at the beginning of a life changing event. I am very happy for you. No one will ever love you as much as a dog will. No matter what you have or haven’t done, right or wrong, the worst day of your life will be made better by coming home to the love of your dog. So long as you hold up your end, you will always have a friend. This is our street dog… You can see she’s adapted well to the good life!

 A mutt. A street mutt. Not a breed, but an amalgam of many breeds. It’s survival of the fittest on the streets . Any alive after a year or so will generally be resistant to considerable hardship. You are likely to have to treat heartworm, so budget for that, and bring vaccines up to date. Spay/neuter as well. These dogs tend to be very devoted, once they understand their change in circumstances is likely to be permanent. Be sure it’s permanent. Nobody lives forever. Make sure besides having the necessary funds for heartworm treatment and then monthly prevention, and vaccines, and spay/neuter, and quality food, and a bit in case of an emergency, (which really should be called eventualities), be sure you have someone who will look after the dog should anything happen to you.
