He saw humans and how they seemed to know how to build things, so the cat just walked into the human's home and took over. The cat soon had the humans doing everything for him. Somehow the cat communicated that it wanted a nice closed-in spot to sleep and hide. This special communication has been long lost to history. Humans now struggle to understand their cats. Anyways, the human built the first box. The cat was delighted. He went and bragged to all his cat friends. Then there was a mad rush of cats wanting humans to build them boxes. Cats would continue to live with humans. Humans have worked tirelessly to improve the box for cats. The humans made small boxes and large boxes. They tried different materials. Finally they found it, the perfect box. It was called the cardboard box. Cats were amazed. They couldn't get enough of these boxes.

 Should I adopt a cat? My sister adopted a 1 month old kitten (now 2 months old) and he has separation anxiety. I've thought about getting an adult cat so then we can leave the kitten home alone. I am not at all sure that will work. Kittens that are removed from their mother's care too early (as your kitten was) may have life-long problems. Separation anxiety is one type of problem they develop. Attempting to nurse on clothes, blankets, and people is another behavior seen in kittens that are taken away from mom too early. Providing an adult cat companion now may do the kitten no good at all. In fact, there would need to be an adjustment period so you certainly could not leave the two animals alone together immediately. Further, the presence of a strange adult cat may cause the kitten to be more anxious. And too, a new adult cat won't necessarily bond with your needy kitten. Not all cats are “maternal.” Further, a cat won't necessarily like every other cat/kitten on the planet any more than you like every human you meet. While some animal problems can be solved by adopting an additional animal, sometimes a new animal won't solve the problem and may make it worse. Since you already have an animal with problems, I'm not sure I'd rush out to adopt a new cat. I'd consider consulting an animal behaviorist instead to help you and your sister work with your kitten.

My cat actually had tests done for “bad bacteria” overgrowth when she began to have the foulest smelling diarrhea. Vet ordered probiotics meant for cats, and I gave them for the month required. She is now balanced in her gut and I will only occasionally give her a partial dose. I know cat food companies are now pushing probiotic food, for cats with tummy trouble. BUT..unless your vet has checked for, and determined a NEED, there could very well be another reason your cat has tummy trouble…like an allergy to the junk they often add to pet food or something else they are eating (like milk,, for example).
