It reviews cases for legal errors in the application of law. In certain specific instances it will accept a filing when it is a disagreement between states. This was the case when the Texas AG filed against Pennsylvania and other states claiming that Texas voters were effected when the states applied their own statutes and procedures. It was rejected based on standing. The 2000 election may be mentioned. SCOTUS did not call the election for Bush. It simply said that the Florida recount was unconstitutional as there were no clear standards and that time for recounts had run out. Bush was ahead so, game over. Were SCOTUS wade in, it would signal an end to their role and possibly the constitution itself. As it is, they have no actual enforcement powers let alone the ability to set aside a half dozen elections.
