They saw Jesus (PBUH) on the cross but according to Quran, it was a lookalike. It is said that Jesus (PBUH) was taken up to heaven and another person who came to catch him was made to look like him. Thus, the imposter was taken put on the cross. So both incidents are correct if looked at this way. Now, the question was, is he alive? As per my understanding, he is in a state where he is neither living nor dead. His life is on a freeze. That is his due time on earth is yet to be spent by him. He will spend the time when antichrist/Dajjal arrives on Earth and Jesus (PBUH) will kill him. After that, Jesus (PBUH) will die when his lifeline is due to end. Judas didn’t betray Jesus by singling him out and identifying him. The Pharisees had tried multiple times before the evening in the garden to kill Jesus, but Jesus evaded them by hiding.
