There are a number of neighborhood cats who I’ll see consistently for a couple of weeks, and then they’ll disappear for another couple of weeks, then show back up again. These are my less dedicated cats. They’re not necessarily more or less feral than the ones who are more consistent; they just don’t have as strong an attachment to my location over someone else’s home in the neighborhood who also feeds them. I’ve also had a few who ‘migrated out’ as I’d call it. One was a kitten when she appeared at my house. Probably barely old enough to be weaned. At first she lived around my house full-time. Too skittish to catch but trusting enough to hang around. But as she got older she started to drift. At first she’d miss a meal. Then she’d be gone all day. Then a few days. For a while I was kidding that I had a shared custody arrangement with someone, because she’d be at my place for about a week, and then disappear for a week, then be back.
