Your sister is very young and needs constant reminders. Don’t yell at her because that will teach her how to get what you want. Yelling and loud noises scare cats. Keep showing her that your cat likes it when you speak softly to him and pet him gently. Maybe you can tell her the cat is like a baby and she has to be gentle. Treat her dolls the same way and maybe she will understand.

Spend short amounts of time with her and the cat - maybe 5 or 10 minutes. Show her how the cat likes it when you treat him nicely then give him a treat after petting. Let her try the same thing. If she starts treating the cat too roughly, remind her to go easy so she can give him the treat. If she doesn’t, you take over petting softly and you give the treat. The poor cat deserves the treat! If she yells or gets too noisy, tell her the kitty needs to rest and remove him from the area. Don’t get in a loud argument, it will scare the cat. Your sister is very young so you need to keep teaching. Maybe you can find a children’s book about cats and read it to her. She may learn from that. Good luck. Please keep your cat safe. There are a number of neighborhood cats who I’ll see consistently for a couple of weeks, and then they’ll disappear for another couple of weeks, then show back up again. These are my less dedicated cats. They’re not necessarily more or less feral than the ones who are more consistent; they just don’t have as strong an attachment to my location over someone else’s home in the neighborhood who also feeds them. I’ve also had a few who ‘migrated out’ as I’d call it. One was a kitten when she appeared at my house. Probably barely old enough to be weaned. At first she lived around my house full-time. Too skittish to catch but trusting enough to hang around. But as she got older she started to drift. At first she’d miss a meal. Then she’d be gone all day. Then a few days. For a while I was kidding that I had a shared custody arrangement with someone, because she’d be at my place for about a week, and then disappear for a week, then be back.

It depends on the cat, the owner's willingness to patiently take the steps to help a cat recover, and more importantly, the type of trauma. A cat that has been abused for long periods will probably never fully recover, even with careful and compassionate forms of rehab. Just like humans can experience the same trauma but it will affect each person differently. Some cats are very resilient, able to recover or at least manage traumatic events and instinctively know who they can trust. Some cats are still skittish and untrusting even after being loved and well taken care of several years after a trauma.

In the end, do the best you can to reassure a cat that has experienced any form of trauma, that it is safe. You can accomplish this by giving the cat time to heal, showing it by your calm demeanor that you pose no harm, talking to the cat in a soothing voice, show the cat it can trust you to feed it and give it a stress free as possible area to recover, and then it's very possible the cat will come to you, when it is ready. Be patient, never force and hopefully you will be instrumental in the cats recovery

Keep feeding it for now. First, make sure it is actually abandoned. Knock on some doors to see if it belongs to someone. If it doesn’t, you need to make a decision quickly. Either adopt the cat or take it to a no-kill shelter so it can find a new family.As for being scared of cats: in the last 2 weeks, I have seen at least three news stories about dogs mauling people to death. However, I have never in my life seen a single news story about a domestic cat killing anyone. If the cat is friendly, it won’t hurt you.

Do not buy dog food at either of these stores. You will likely get dog food made in China, most of which has been shown to be harmful to your dog. I agree with Kate Taylor, Just order your food from Chewy. If you don’t think this is a good idea, go into UPS sometime and see people shipping things in Chewy boxes. There are a lot of them. They have lots of foods at all price ranges. We have fed them to our dogs for years and they are very healthy, or at least that is what our vet says. We get a bag of dog food and a couple packages of dog treats, all made in the USA, and the dogs love them.The first dog we ever had, we didn’t know any better, and fed him grocery store dog food. Unfortunately, looking back, he didn’t live as long as he probably should have
