Actually, there are some cancers that are very treatable in cats. Small cell lymphoma, for example, can be treated with regular oral doses of chlorambucil and your cat can live a long and happy life. I've had cats that were on IV chemotherapy for intestinal lymphoma. (Cats tolerate chemotherapy much better than people do.) One did very well, a couple of others never went into remission. I also had a cat with nasal lymphoma that had radiation therapy and did very, very well.

They can usually get their message across. I’m a confirmed cat lover, so it doesn’t matter if it’s the neighbor’s cat or one of my own. This happened about 20 years ago when by sheer coincidence my neighbor and I got long-haired black kittens, practically twins, at basically the same time. He told me he picked his stray up in a bad area of the city, and I teased him that he’d picked up brothers and dumped one on me. He swore he didn’t. Our Tas was an inside cat and sometimes he and Getty would play through the window. Getty was allowed to roam at will. We live on the edge of the woods outside of town. I loved Getty almost as much as I did my Tas. Sometimes Getty would come to visit me on my back deck, and I’d pet him and give him treats because I realized that he wasn’t getting a lot of attention at home. He always went home at suppertime so I knew he was getting fed.

He actually lived across the street and three houses down from us. He’d been spending a lot of time in the woods next to my house, and one day he came out of the woods for a visit. I gave him the usual petting and loving, then he jumped up and walked about 10 ft. up the path into the woods. He turned around and came to me, then he started tugging on my arm with his teeth and pulling at me with his front paws. He did this several times. I easily got the message that he wanted me to follow him. I urged him on and followed him, up the yard into the street. Then we walked down the street to a section by a fenced-off ravine. I could have gotten through the fence, but the terrain was just too steep for a two-legged human. Getty started down the ravine into the woods. I called him and told him that I couldn’t follow him there. He came back and made several attempts, biting my ankles and pulling on me, but there was no way I could get down safely. I had to turn around and go home.
