 Well what makes it hard is that you are trying to teach the dog that you used to do this but now do that. So if the dog used to jump up and “hug” people when they walked up to you for 8 years, you are now saying to the dog, ``Undo 8 years of understanding how the world works and do it this way (sit instead). So the real issue is that the dog has had a lot of practice doing something and now we are essentially teaching do this instead. Can it be done? Yeah, you won’t have the fast turn around as a puppy who had much less experience at doing something than an older dog but you can make things better. This is helpful as it is about reinforcing the right choice instead of punishing the wrong one. Very helpful in making changes stick.
