 If the animal isn't able to stand on its own, and you have a car with enough space, the physical strength necessary (if the animal is on the larger side), and the situation is urgent enough that it's better to risk the possibility of doing further harm by moving the animal than it would be to just wait for the vet to arrive (ie, if the animal is still in the road and is in danger of being hit again if they aren't relocated asap), or if you need to bring the animal to the vet yourself because a vet isn't able to come to the scene, then you can very, very carefully lift and move the animal into your car and then drive them to the vet yourself, or at least move them to a safer location — like to the shoulder or the side of the road — to wait for help there.
