 I'd only advise most of the above if you at least somewhat know what you're doing, or if there's no other choice, however. If a vet is on their way, and simply keeping the animal company and waiting is the most you feel qualified to do, and there's no immediate need to try to either move the animal or keep it from running away… then just do that. Stay by their side and talk to them soothingly, so they know they're not alone, until help arrives. Then if the vet needs your help when they show up, they can give you more specific instructions on what they'd like you to do.
