Throughout Trump's term Whitehouse and Pentagon staff members complained about how difficult it was to get Trump to read briefings. Daily intelligence briefings were tradition in the Whitehouse for 50 years prior to Trump. Trump broke with that tradition from his transition period straight through his presidency. Trump kept himself ignorant by refusing the information that allowed other Presidents to understand the nuances in US relations with Afghanistan.
